About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Connection flights between A-B and B-C

I want to do a flight from (Istanbul Beijing)- to (Beijing London) and get a 144hours transit visa on arrival at the Beijing Airport as a UK passport holder, but I could not find the following information. Am I really eligible and Do these flights only have to be direct flights for transit, for example can there be connection flights between (Istanbul – Beijing) as Istanbul >Dubai > Beijing and for departure Beijing> Dubai> London, I would be very grateful if you could provide this information.

Also is it mandatory to show proof of stay at a hotel to get the transit visa on arrival or can I stay at a friends place and be registered at the police station within 24 hours on arrival.

The most important detail in 144 hour visa free transit scheme is that the immediate points before and after your Chinese destination are in two different countries or eligible territories. Eligible territories are: Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau. So, your itinerary:

Istanbul - Dubai - Beijing - Dubai - London

Is not eligible because the two immediate points before and after Beijing are in just one or better to say, the same country - UAE.

I would suggest you one creative solution. You can book a multi city ticket to look like:

Istanbul - Dubai - Beijing

and

Hong Kong - Dubai - Istanbul

The segment Beijing - Hong Kong you will do by a local flight. So, in the end your itinerary will look like:

Istanbul - Dubai - Beijing - Hong Kong - Dubai - Istanbul

This itinerary is eligible for 144 hour visa free transit and you do not need any kind of visa. As you can see, here the immediate points before and after Beijing are in two different countries/eligible territories. A bit of creativity and you can travel visa free :)

Also, please, just use correct terminology since this is 144 hour visa free transit and not 144 hours transit visa. There is no visa at all.

Also, you can stay at a friends place. At the time when you approach 144 hour visa free transit counter, you will declare that and you will provide the identity of your friend, her/his address as wells as her/his phone number. After that you will be allowed to exit the airport. As you have mentioned, you will have to register at the local PSB (police) within 24 hours after your scheduled landing.

Wow thanks Borut, this made things really clear, I think I have found an eligible route such as:

Istanbul > Tashkent > Beijing > Almaty > Istanbul

this being: Tashkent > Beijing > Almaty

Ozbekhistan >China > Kazakhistan

which makes it 3 different destination countries which makes it eligible right?

Also do I need to use the same airport for departure as well, say if I use Peking International to arrive and Peking Daixing to leave will it be a problem?

Thanks for everything Borut, you are a life-saver, have a nice week. <3

Yes, your itinerary is now perfectly eligible for 144 hour visa free transit in winder Beijing area. This is the way how an itinerary should look like.

Also, you are perfectly allowed to use different airports within one transit area or in other words, you can use Beijing International for your arrival and Beijing Daxing for your departure.

To conclude, you are good to go.
