No, this is not possible because this is not a transit.

However, if you want to visit Shenzhen only, then by far the best option is to apply for a 5 days Shenzhen visa on arrival that you can easily obtain for just 168 CNY per person. Your best bet is to use Luohu (Lo Wu) or Huangganag border crossings between Hong Kong and Shenzhen and there you will apply for this visa and after 30 minutes, you will be free to travel to Shenzhen. Please, just have in mind that visa offices are open until 16:30.

After your stay in Shenzhen, you can return by taking any border crossing toward Hong Kong or any mean of transport, high speed train included.

Yes, of course, as I have mentioned that explicitly in my last sentence :)

Anyway, at the time being, since the crowds are more than evident regarding Shenzhen visa on arrival, I do not suggest any overland border crossing, but taking a ferry (catamaran) from Hong Kong to Shekou port in Shenzhen. Like this, those willing to apply for a Shenzhen visa on arrival will find themselves in more comfortable situation since the crowds on catamarans are noticeable less than those on overland border crossings. Just one detail... Those willing to take a ferry (catamaran) have to have in mind the opening hours of visa office at Shekou port: 9:00 - 13:00 & 14:30 - 16:30.
