About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Does an Azerbaijani citizen need a transit visa when going from UK - Guangzou - Thailand

Hi, my wife is an Azerbaijani citizen but lives in the UK with me on a spouse visa.
We are travelling to Thailand and transferring via Guangzou inbetween.
Does she need a visa and if so can this be applied for at the airport in Guangzou or needs to be done in advance?

No, they don't need any kind of visa, but there is a conditions:

- Based on your question, I assume that you will have just one landing within mainland China and that it will be in Guangzhou. So, if the time from your scheduled arrival in Guangzhou and your scheduled departure from Guangzhou is shorter than 24 hours, you and your Azerbaijani wife do not need any kind of visa because you will be covered by 24 hour visa free transit. So, this is the option where no visa is required at all.
- Quite the contrary, if your transit time, based on the above mentioned criteria, is longer than 24 hours, you will automatically become eligible for 144 hour visa free transit, but your wife would have to obtain a transit visa in advance.
