May I know if German citizens are eligible to apply for Visa on Arrival at Shenzhen entry ports or at the Shenzhen airport as we will be visiting the Shenzhen area for three days?Next Monday, we plan to take a direct flight from Chiang Mai to Shenzhen.

You are eligible for Shenzhen VOA, and you can get it at the airport, costing CNY168 per person. As you said you will fly in from Chiang Mai, what's your next destination? If it's somewhere outside China mainland and you have the hard copy of the ticket in hand, you will be eligible for 144-hour visa-free transit. It costs none.
