Regarding first time apply for 10 year Q2 visa as a Chinese American citizen

Hi there, I became a US citizen last year, I plan to visit my mom in Shanghai, China around the end of Sep 2023, and will stay there probably for 2 months less than 180 days. This will be my first time applying for a Chinese visa. Should I book the flight tickets before applying for the 10-year Q2 visa? Can I start to apply for 10-year Q2 visa sooner perhaps in Mar 2023?

There is no need to book a flight ticket beforehand. You can start the procedure in March as you like. Because you need to make an appoinment to submit the application and it's not easy to make the appoinment successfully.
