Current age limit Z work permit

I have been told by my current Chinese university employer they cannot renew my contract for the coming school year as I turn 60 in June. Does anyone know if this is a national policy or provincial policy? Or there is another type of work permit that another type of employer in China might successfully apply for on behalf of someone my age?

It’s national policy that the retiring age is 60 for male employees. If there is a real need for talents who meet the requirements of outstanding innovation and entrepreneurship, or professional skills, the restrictions on age may be appropriately relaxed.
