About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Accommodation in Shanghai for 144 hours

If things resume as normal and I were to have a 144-hour visa free transit in Shanghai from London, would I be able to stay in a friend's house during those 144 hours? Or would it be required that I need a hotel reservation?
