while traveling in china my visa was cancelled (around the time of the hong kong protests)

I was traveling in china and wanted to go to hong kong for a day trip, I was not working in china at all during this period. However, they told me that it was unreasonable for foreigners to be in china if not for work, so I must be working illegally and they cancelled my visa. That was over a year ago at this point. In the future I would like to travel to china again to see friends, but I don't know if I'll be rejected or not. They told the hong kong immigration officials that I had been working illegally, but when they recorded me they said i was being denied entry for suspicious activities. So, I'm not sure how that will reflect on being able to go traveling there again. Is there a way to check my status?

Well... if you just apply for a tourist visa in the future, you still have a chance to get it. There is no way to check your status, sorry.
