Has the 2 month extension ended?

My visa expires in 2 weeks and I called the entry and exit bureau in my city to confirm that I can use the 2 month automatic visa extension and they told me that this policy is no longer in place. Has this update been confirmed or did the lady just want to get rid of me?

The lady just wanted to get of you. I went in today to pick up my passport in Shanghai and the automatic 2 months ext. are still on

If you have registered at the police station when you enter China, it's not necessary to register again to get the 2-month automatic extension.
