What qualifies a private visit vs a family reunion vs tourism?

What are the qualifications for Private vs family vs tourism. We are trying to figure out how long our song cans tay in China if he is visiting us and has the ten year tourist visa.

Christy, if he has already got the ten year tourist visa, he can enter China for a private visit as well. The longest stay duration after each can be found on his visa.
