About:Chinese Temporary Residence Permit

Residence permit transfer to new passport

Hi,
I have applied for a new passport which I will only be able to pick up a few days before I travel outside of China. The time between pick up of the passport and my outbound flight is too short to have my residence permit transferred to my new passport and I need to pick up my new passport at this time.
Is it possible to exit China with my old (invalid) passport with the residence permit in it and with my new (valid) passport without getting into any trouble?

Residence permit holders will have no problem using their old and new passports to enter and leave China.

However you should ensure that your residence permit remains intact. Some European countries hole-punch old passports and any damage to the page containing your residence permit (or the residence permit itself) will void your residence permit.
