About:Overstaying in China & Penalty

i would like to know if its possible for my school to cancel my residence permit in the system

so my school notified me that they are going to cancel my residence permit soI want to know if its possible for them to cancel it while i am the one in possession of the passport,and while my permit expires in July 2020 am I at risk if i leave China beofre then though the school claims to have cancelled it

The school is able to cancel your residence permit at the local exit and entry administration if it founds out that you did not abide by the immigration laws of China.
