About:Marriage Registration in China

Married to Chinese citizen in Australia is the marriage recognised in China

Hi, I married a chinese citizen in Australia and I am a foreigner myself in China. Is the marriage recognised in China? Do we need to do anything in China to get it recognised because I didn’t have a problem with getting my visa through my marriage. If my chinese spouse didn’t do anything to recognise our marriage in China, does that consider them single in China? Later, hope it won’t happen though but if we do get divorced do I need to get divorced in China or Australia?

Yes, it's recognized in China, but you need to have your marriage certificate authenticated by the Chinese embassy or consulate in Australia. Then your spouse can update the marriage status in household registration book after returning to China. You can get divorced in Australia.

Hi Julia's problem is the same with me, after the marriage certificate is authenticated in Chinese consulate, where should the spouse go to update the marriage status? Is that mean that I have to translate the marriage certificate? Please give details step by step, thank you
