About:240-hour Visa-free Transit in Beijing, Tianjin & Hebei

Beijing Visa free travel if round trip flight

Do I qualify for the 144 hour visa free exemption if travelling from Chicago, layover in Toronto, to Beijing. And then Beijing, layover in Toronto, Chicago?

Visa will be needed. All flights and connections are taken into consideration. Regardless of origin / final destination, this is viewed as Canada > China > Canada thus not a transit. You need to introduce a third country in there. Example USA > Canada > Beijing > Japan > Canada > USA would be valid.

If this is that recent Air Canada sale it might be cheaper to apply for the 10 year multiple entry visa prior to the trip. This is assuming you have more than one year remaining on your passport. You can do in person at the Chinese Consulate in Chicago for $140 USD avoiding paying for visa service company fees and shipping cost.
