do I need a visa?

Hello I am a US citizen flying to Japan. I have an option to either have a 14 hour layover in Beijing, Nanjing, or Shanghai. Do I need a visa for any of these layovers?

No as long as its only one of the above. I suggest avoiding Shanghai on 24 hour transit as the odds are higher the 14 hours is required to stay inside the airport.
