BKK-PVG-PEK-PVG-NRT, touching same city twice

Hi,
I have only read that it's possible to take connecting flights within the 24h.

Is it also possible to touch the same city twice?

Like buying a ticket from Bangkok via Shanghai to Beijing and a second ticket from Beijing via Shanghai to Tokyo. Arrival in Shanghai for the first time and departure in Shanghai the second time are within 24h.
I would arrive in Shanghai in the morning and on the same day leave Shanghai in the evening for Tokyo.
