Well, a Honduran citizen will have to apply for a Chinese tourist (L) visa, single entry in advance (non US citizens - 30 USD) because if you intend to stay in Beijing for just a minute longer than 24 hours, a visa is a must for a Honduran citizen. A US citizen will not need a visa if he/she intends to have Beijing as the only stop in mainland China. In other words, if your itinerary is:
US - Beijing - Hong Kong
And if you intend to stay within the area of Beijing City, Tianjin City and Hebei province, a US citizen can enjoy 144 hour visa free transit. Quite the contrary, if you intend to travel outside of the mentioned area like Xi'an, then a US citizen will also need a Chinese tourist (L) visa obtained in advance. One more detail... To be eligible for 144 hour visa free transit, you are not allowed to have any additional landing within mainland China during your flights from US to Beijing and Beijing and Hong Kong.
As far as Hong Kong is concerned, both Honduran and US citizen don't need any kind of visa. One information here... If you intend to visit Macau, it is visa free for a US citizen, but a Honduran citizen will have to obtain a Macau visa on arrival.
The process of visa obtaining takes about a week. It can take less than that, but you should count on a week to be comfortable with your plans.
Also, a plane tickets are required to be presented at the moment of your visa application. I understand that many travelers are reluctant to do that, but in reality, the percentage of those denied a visa is so low, so you really don't have to be afraid to book your flight tickets in advance and to make a visa application with a peace of mind.
