About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Estonia-Shangai-Tokyo-Shangai-Estonia

Hello,

We have booked a return flight from Estonia to Shangai by Lufthansa (via Munich). At Shangai we will be staying for 1,5 days and then fly to Tokyo (by Peach airline), where will be staying for 3 days. After that we fly back to Shangai (by Peach airline) and stay there again 1,5 days. And after these 1,5 days in Shangai we will fly back to Estonia by Lufthansa (via Frankfurt).

What kind of visa is required to visit Shangai?

Thank you,

Tarmo

You don’t require any visa. 144 hours visa-free transit applies.

Hi,

This is Tarmo again.
i have some more questions.

What is the difference between 72h and 144h TWOV?
If we are staying in Shanghai on our first visit for 1,5 days and three days later again 1,5 days, can we apply 72h TWOV for both our stays (separately)?

Is there a possibility that we are denied of boarding in Munich (to Shanghai) (and the same in Tokyo to Shangai) if we don´t have a tourist visa?

Thanks again,

Tarmo

72h TWOV was replaced in Shanghai by 144h TWOV several years ago. The clock resets every time you enter China, so you are fine for both entries. Make sure you print your confirmed flight tickets showing the long (13 or 14 digit) ticket number. Literally thousands of people use TWOV at Shanghai every year, so it's nothing special. You shouldn't have any problem, but if you're worried then just get to the airport early to leave plenty of time to sort it out.
