One entry visa or two?

I am flying to China to board a cruise to Japan. The cruise around Japan goes for 8 days then finishes in Shanghai where we departed from. Will I be required to purchase a double entry 6 month Chinese Visa at a cost of $139.50? Or is the single 3 month entry Chinese Visa sufficient?

Frank, so your route is Austrlia - Shanghai - Japan - Shanghai - Austrlia? If yes, please check whether you are eligible for the 144h visa-free transit in Shanghai first. If it's the case, you don't need a visa actually.
