About:Policy for Foreigners with Immediate Family Living in China

L visa or S2 visa for a 2 week visit?

I am a foreigner who lives and works in China. My sister will visit me for two weeks. Does she need an L or S2 visa???

The S2 visa states it’s for family members... but the paperwork is troublesome (proof of kinship is required etc). An L visa is so much easier to apply for but is it ok for her to apply for the L visa in this case?

She can get an L visa. I think L visa is easier to apply and it suits her case.

I have a 60-day multiple China visa valid for 9+ years in my passport (issued in Canada). As it is valid for only 60 days in China, then I must exit China and return (for an additional 60 day permit). No problem. Walk across border to Hong Kong (SAR), and then walk immediately back to China. You have officially exited the PRC and returned again. Hong Kong retains its own special status separate from China (SAR). In summary, you have departed China. You do not need to fly away.....
