About:Chinese Embasy in Ireland

My son is going to china in September 2025 for 1 week he is going for an ice skating competition

Does he need a visa with it been an international sporting event for qualifying for the Olympics.
He has an Irish passport

I think he needs an M visa and the invitation letter from the host of the sporting event will be needed.
