About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Vancouver > Shanghai > Kunming > Myanmar

Wondering if it is possible to spend 3 days in shanghai. Fly to Myanmar via Kunming with a 19 hour layover. Would it be possible to leave the airport in Kunming?

Unfortunately, two consecutive stops within mainland China (Shanghai and Kunming) immediately limits you to 24 hour visa free transit. In other words, when you have two consecutive stops within mainland China, you have to perform your entire transit within 24 hour time frame. If you want to retain actual itinerary, you will have to obtain a Chinese visa in advance.
