Traveling to Sanya from Jan 1 to Jan 4

Hello, I will be traveling from the United States to Hong Kong and then to Hainan and then Vietnam. I have tried to contact travel agencies but have not heard back. My parents already have their China Visa as they are taking a longer trip than I am. Can you tell me more about the VOA and what are my options? Thank you!

If you are departing to Sanya directly from Hong Kong, you can rely on Hainan visa on arrival. If you are a citizen of US, the price of this visa will be 956 CNY upon your arrival in Sanya. Very good detail about Hainan visa on arrival is that you are allowed to travel from Hainan to one of mainland Chinese destination and explore it before you depart back to US or to proceed to Vietnam as you have mentioned in your initial post. In other words, when traveling on Hainan visa on arrival, your itinerary can look like:

US - Hong Kong - Sanya - Beijing - Vietnam

Of course, you can also use the following itinerary:

US - Hong Kong - Sanya - Vietnam

All the above mentioned is covered by Hainan visa on arrival.

Just to be clear for other readers, Hainan visa on arrival is safe to rely on only if you are departing to Hainan from Hong Kong and maybe from Macau. Any other airport beside two mentioned, will not allow you to board the plane.

It is an unfortunate situation that you have not obtained a Chinese 10 year multiple entry visa that US citizens are eligible for. OK, now it is as it is and its is important that you know this detail and not to be shocked by the price of Hainan VOA upon your arrival in Sanya.
