If you are a Malaysian citizen, the answer is, unfortunately, yes. You definitely need a Chinese transit (G) visa to accomplish your journey. Malaysians are currently ineligible for any kind of visa free transit option because of the undisclosed reasons. I hope this situation will change soon, but I suggest you to obtain a visa and to travel with absolute peace of mind.
