About:China Visa Application in UK

How to get a free transit visa in Xi'an.

I qualify for a free transit visa. British passport and only staying 5 hours. My flight is self transfer so i have to collect my luggage and check in again for Vietnam. Although i keep reading that i qualify, i can't see how i apply. Do i apply on arrival please?.

Upon your arrival in the airport in Xi'an, you can follow the direction signs for visa-free transit and get a temporary stay permit on your passport. So that you can leave the transit zone to collect your luggage.

Tom. That actually should have 8 hours. 8 hours 15 minutes.
I read that i won't be allowed into the city on an 8 hour stopover. Do you know if thats right. I wanted to book a short tour but i can't in case they say i can't go out.
Thanks Tom.

Yes, I heard that if the layover is shorter than 8 hours, the immigration officer may refuse you to leave the airport. However, if you have a booked tour itinerary, it may allow you to go.
