About:How to Travel to China without a Visa

Visa to Shenzhen

On the way back from Vietnam to Canada. I stop at Hong Kong airport and will take the bus to Shenzhen to stay for 4 days. Do I need a visa? Am I qualify for 144 hours free visa?

You are eligible for 5 day Shenzhen visa on arrival. The price for this VOA for Canadian citizens is 168 CNY and if taking a bus, you should carefully choose one crossing at Huanggang border crossing because this is the only one road crossing where you can obtain a Shenzhen VOA.

By the way, you are not eligible for 144 hour visa free transit when traveling from Hong Kong to Shenzhen overland or by ferry. So, a Shenzhen VOA is your only choice, but you should be aware that you are limited to Shenzhen city limits.

You can return to Hong Kong by every mean of transport available, including a high speed train. You are also allowed to take a direct flight out of Shenzhen to Canada (Vancouver), but this flight is not allowed to have any additional landing within mainland China.
