About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Please help Traveling from Los Angeles to Shanghai to Hong Kong

We are flying to Shanghai from Los Angeles, but have a 2 hour lay over in Hong Kong on the way. After Shanghai, we are flying to Hong Kong and then back to Los Angeles. Are we eligible for the transit visa if we have to change planes in Hong Kong on the way???

No, you must get a tourist (L) visa.

So, if we change our flight from Los Angeles to Shanghai and make it a direct flight, will we be ok for a transit visa? In other words Los Angeles to Shanghai non stop, then Shanghai to Hong Kong, then back to Los Angeles.

Yes, if your final itinerary is:

Los Angeles - Shanghai - Hong Kong - Los Angeles

Is perfectly eligible for 144 hour visa free transit in entire Shanghai transit area and you don't need any kind of visa.

Please, just use correct terminology because this is not a visa, but 144 hour visa free transit. In reality, you are traveling without a visa.
