Help - Planning trip from Thailand -> China -> USA

Hi!

I'm planning a trip from Thailand to Shanghai, then back home to USA. If I fly from Thailand to Shanghai on Friday 12/27 and leave on Thursday 1/2 before midnight will I be okay? And what do I need to ahead of time to make sure that I have all the right paper work/ procedures in place?

Thanks,
Nick

Your plan is definitely eligible for 144 hour visa free transit. Also, you should be aware that the day of arrival is not counted against your allowed 144 hours in Shanghai area. The counting begins on the day after the day of your arrival.

Also, your itinerary:

Thailand - Shanghai - US

Is also fine, but you are warned that beside Shanghai you are not allowed to have any additional stop within mainland China!

You will just print out your flight tickets with visible 13/14 digit number of your ticket and have those printouts with you. Also, you will declare at check-in in Thailand that you will travel to US via Shanghai using 144 hour visa free transit. After a short inspection of your flight tickets, you will be allowed to board the plane.

Upon arrival in Shanghai, you will approach 144 hour visa free transit where you will fill out the blue form and after that you will get a sticker in your passport. Shortly after, you will be allowed to exit the airport and to enjoy your time in the way you wish.

By the way, it is advisable to book your accommodation in Shanghai for at least for the first overnight because within the blue form, there are several questions regarding this subject.
