About:Overstaying in China & Penalty

Entry denied

Hello, I Think I overstayed by 1-2 days, still when I applied for a new visa i got it, but at my arrival I was questioned and asked to open my phone for a check, the police went through all my pictures and WeChat and denied me entry at the airport, they didn’t even tell me the cause but I’ve heard they think that I was working illegally which is NOT true. I don’t know for how long I’ll be banned ? Any ideas ?

The fact that you have WeChat means you have made frequent visits or have significant ties to Mainland China, and the fact that you were refused entry means they have definitely found something on your phone that may implicate you. Unlawful employment discovered while in Mainland China typically carries a ban of at least five years but in this case you were simply turned around at the airport, so the best assumption is that you have a record that is only visible to immigration and there is no way to find out unless you contact them directly.
