Alberto, it is not possible to obtain a Shenzhen visa on arrival when you arrive in Shenzhen by plane. Please, just trust me because this website is not updated on this detail. I would be the happiest person if I only could confirm that you can obtain a Shenzhen VOA by flying to Shenzhen. The truth is - you cannot.
So, I have suggested that you use 144 hour visa free transit where your eligible itinerary will be:
Thailand - Shenzhen - Hong Kong
Also, I have explained the steps you need to take to be eligible for this option.
If you decide for this option, you will be immediately, upon your landing, allowed to stay for the next 6 days within the entire Guangdong province to travel and to stay wherever you want. Of course, it is highly advisable to have at least the first overnight booked in advance and in possession of a confirmation because this is required upon your landing in Shenzhen.
So, after you have stayed within Guangdong province for up to 6 days, you will take a ferry, exactly as I have described to really fulfill the meaning of transit. This and only this is the reason why you have to travel to Hong Kong. Also, when you enter Hong Kong, you can immediately depart back to Shenzhen and apply for a Shenzhen VOA. Here you will be able to obtain a Shenzhen VOA and stay, if you want in Shenzhen, but this time only within Shenzhen, for the next 5 days.
The only eligible way how you are allowed to travel to Hong Kong from Shenzhen is by ferry from Shenzhen Shekou to Hong Kong Macau ferry terminal. Also, you need a ticket (in reality an e-confirmation) in your hand at the moment of your check-in in Thailand. Simply speaking, this is the only option that allows you to have a ticket in your hand before your travel to Shenzhen.
