Free transit between Hong Kong and Guangzhou?

I'm about to take a flight from Germany to Hong Kong, travel the short distance to Guangzhou by train, do a little sightseeing in Guangzhou, and take another flight from Guangzhou to Bangkok. So I would probably enter China Mainland from Hong Kong at Shenzhen border. Is this possible with a free transit visa, and for how many hours? Or how can I modify my itinerary to comply with the free transit visa regulations?

The only, but really the only way to accomplish an itinerary:

Hong Kong - Guangzhou - Bangkok

And to be eligible for 24 or 144 hour visa free transit in Guangdong province is to take a direct flight from Hong Kong to Guangzhou.

There is quite a number of people asking the question of similar type, but although everything is so geographically close, the rules have made it quite at the distance.

Anyway, if you take a flight from Hong Kong to Guangzhou, you will be eligible to stay for 144 hours absolutely visa free within the entire Guangdong province before your departure by plane to Bangkok.
