About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit in Guangdong

Shenzhen Hong Kong and back to Shenzhen

We are attending a wedding in Shenzhen and Hong Kong, with family meals in both places.
If we arrive in Shenzhen and get a five day visa, can we leave to HK (perhaps just fir the day) and then get another 5 day visa when we come back?
We intend to fly on from Shenzhen/Guangzhou to the Phillipines return, and transit back on the way home.

One additional point: remember that the 5 day Shenzhen VOA only allows you to travel in Shenzhen. You would not be allowed to fly to the Philippines from Guangzhou, as mentioned as a possibility in your post. Because you are travelling for an important event, it might be worth just getting a Chinese visa to make things smoother and easier, and to give you more flexibility to take any train and to avoid ferries etc. There will be a cost involved, of course, but Shenzhen VOA is not free either.

Zupan,
Many thanks for this extremely helpful reply.
Can I confirm that there is no option for a 5 day visa on arrival at Shenzhen airport? The website suggests it is possible, but I know that things change rapidly.
Once again thanks.

Part one:

If I have properly understood you, your entire itinerary is supposed to be exactly like this:

Europe - Shenzhen - Hong Kong - Shenzhen - Philippines - Europe

Did I understand this properly?

So, if I'm right, you can do this by using 144 hour visa free transit for your first portion:

Europe - Shenzhen - Hong Kong

Anyway, you are warned that your flight to Shenzhen is not allowed to have any additional landing of any kind within mainland China! In other words, it has to arrive to Shenzhen directly from a country different than mainland China.

I have noticed that you have mentioned that you would like to transfer to Hong Kong during the first day, but this is not possible. You have to remain in Shenzhen for at least 24 hours and 1 minute to be eligible for 144 hour visa free transit.

Also, you will have just one eligible option how to transfer from Shenzhen to Hong Kong when traveling on 144 hour visa free transit and that is a ferry (a catamaran in reality) from Shenzhen Shekou port to Hong Kong. Also, you will have to book this ferry through CKS - Chu Kong Passenger transport company website even before your departure to Shenzhen. So, after you have booked your ticket through the mentioned website, you will receive an e-confirmation that you will print out and have that printout with you all the time. You will need it at check-in in the country from where you will arrive in Shenzhen and also upon landing in Shenzhen when you approach 144 hour visa free transit counter to be allowed to exit the airport.

Part two:

As mentioned, you will be allowed to leave Shenzhen by ferry, 24 hours after your scheduled arrival by plane and after that you can stay in Hong Kong.

To be allowed to return to Shenzhen, you will, preferably, use Lo Wu / Luohu border crossing where you will apply and obtain a 5 day Shenzhen VOA (price for UK citizens is 304 CNY). After that you will be able to stay in Shenzhen for 5 days.

When you terminate your visit to Shenzhen, you will be able to take your flight to the Philippines. Again, you will not be allowed to have a flight that has any additional landing of any kind within mainland China. You simply have to take a flight that will bring you the Philippines or some other country on a direct, nonstop flight.

The reason why I have mentioned 144 hour visa free transit for your arrival in Shenzhen and a transit to Hong Kong is in the fact that this is the only way how can you reach Hong Kong from Shenzhen visa free. Also, you should be aware that it is not possible to obtain a 5 day Shenzhen VOA when arriving in Shenzhen by plane.
