About:Hainan 30-Day Visa-Free Access

British passport holder travelling to Sanya not registered with local travel agency

Hi, I am planning to visit Sanya in Hainan province just for a weekend, departing from/ returning to HK. I am a British passport holder working in HK, intended stay in Hainan is just 3 days, am I eligible for Visa on Arrival please?

Yes, you are. When using Hainan VOA you should always depart from Hong Kong because practically all other airports would deny you a boarding. Regardless of the fact that you are eligible for Hainan VOA, you are advised to print out your flight tickets and also to have your accommodation booking done in advance and everything supported by printouts that you will present upon arrival in Sanya. Also, you should have in mind to bring 304 CNY (the price for UK citizens) in Chinese cash that you can obtain at one of many Hong Kong money changers. OK, have some more cash with you for a start.
