About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit in Guangdong

Flights to Shenzhen via Beijing

Thankyou for answer my other question, very helpful indeed. Due to the lack of flights from the UK direct to Shenzhen it looks likes I would need to fly via Beijing or Chengdu. If I just transit through either airport will that affect the 144 hour visa when I arrive into Shenzhen?

But I wouldn't be clearing immigration in either Chengdu or Beijing, just getting off one plane onto another.

Yes, of course. If you do that, you will not be able to enjoy 144 hour visa free transit. In other words, if your itinerary has two consecutive stops of any kind within mainland China, you are limited to just 24 hour visa free transit.

As far as direct flights from UK to Shenzhen are concerned, you have only London to Shenzhen flight offered by Shenzhen Airlines. Anyway, you can also use Guangzhou airport instead of Shenzhen because they are located within the same province and consequently within the same transit zone. From London, you have a direct flight to Guangzhou provided by China Southern Airlines.

Unfortunately, this is not possible. The immigration is cleared at the very first airport when you land in China. So, you really cannot have two consecutive stops within mainland China and remain eligible for 144 hour visa free transit. You will have to either travel your itinerary within 24 hours to be eligible for 24 hour visa free transit or to obtain a Chinese tourist (L) visa if you want to retain your multi stop Chinese itinerary. Of course, you can always adapt this itinerary to be eligible for 144 hour visa free transit by creating the itinerary with just one stop within mainland China. Sorry.
