About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Lots of maneuvering!

I have booked a RT that goes Boston --> Montreal --> Shanghai --> Montreal --> Boston. I have also purchased additional tickets that will go Shanghai --> Manila --> Shanghai. When I apply for the 144 hour visa I will be going Manila --> Shanghai --> Montreal but with separate itineraries. Do you think this will still grant me a 144 hour visa?

My trip will be
Boston --> Montreal --> Shanghai --> Manila --> Shanghai --> Montreal --> Boston. I only need to 144 hour during the second time in Shanghai.

Separate tickets are allowed. Make sure you actually go to Manila.

In reality, your whole itinerary is very clear. You are definitely eligible for visa free transit in Shanghai twice regardless of the fact that you will travel on separate tickets.

As far as I have understood you, you will just transit for a short time during your first stop in Shanghai. This is fine because you will be covered by 24 hour visa free transit, but you are advised to allowed at least 4 or even 5 hours for your transfer in Shanghai because this airport could be quite time consuming. Upon your arrival you will approach 24 hour visa free transit counter where you will apply for a temporary entry permit to be allowed to collect your luggage and to perform a recheck for your flight to Manila.

During your second stop, you will enjoy 144 hour visa free transit.
