About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

policy registration

with the 144 hour visa free transit should i register at the local police within 24 hours? if yes what documents are needed?

If you stay at a hotel, the staff will do it for you.
If you stay private, you have to do it yourself.

Your host will have to accompany you with their Mainland Chinese Resident ID card or non-Chinese passport. They will also need to see your passport and departure card. Usually most of the questions will be answered by your host. After all's said and done they will give you a copy of registration confirmation which you need to retain while in Mainland China.
