About:Visa on Arrival

I want to travel to Shenzhen from HK for a two-days trip.

My passport is relatively new (January 2019) and I read on other websites that this could cause a problem for getting the VOA on the boarder. They could request to see the an expired passport, which I don't have, as this is my first passport. Do you think this could be a problem? What else would be the advisable procedure to get a visa?

In reality, a new passport is not an obstacle to be granted a Shenzhen VOA, but people tend to declare it a problem because the holders of a new passport are usually asked several question regarding the document itself and also for the reason of having a new passport. This has led some of the travelers not to answer truthfully or to deny answering at all. This is the worst mistake and such a behavior brought them to be denied a visa.

Since you are a German citizen and especially if you are somewhat younger person, you can declare that you were not traveling outside EU until the obtaining of a new passport because you were traveling within the EU countries until that time. This is a good reason for not having a passport because you just needed your ID to travel to more than 20 countries. This explanation will be satisfactory and you will be granted a Shenzhen VOA.
