Will a 72 hours visa be sufficient ?

Travelling with my 20 years old son. We both travelling with U.S passport.
What is required if we go from New York to singapore on Nov. 21 staying there for 5 days. then go from Singapore to Shanghai on Nov. 26, and from Shanghai to New York on Nov.28.

All that you need are the printouts of your flight tickets with visible 14 digit number and your valid passports.

You will declare at check-in in Singapore that you will travel to New York via Shanghai using 144 hour visa free transit. After a short inspection of your tickets, you will be allowed to board the plane. Also, upon your landing in Shanghai, you will approach 144 hour visa free transit where you will fill out a blue form. Again, after a short inspection, you will get a sticker in your passport and be allowed to exit the airport.

You should definitely use correct terminology, because you will travel on 144 hour visa free transit and not on 144 hours visa or similar. There is no visa at all. Also, 72 hour visa free transit has been replaced in Shanghai by 144 hour visa free transit a couple of years ago.
