About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Transit Visa Confusion

I am flying to Shanghai from the UK with a one hour layover in Doha. I am in Shanghai for 3 days and then fly to Qatar to commence my holiday in Qatar. I am confused about what Visa I require. Will a 72 hour transit Visa in Shanghai be sufficient or will i require a different visa?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Unfortunately, your itinerary is not eligible for any kind of visa free transit because it is a simple round trip:

Doha - Shanghai - Doha.

The rule of visa free transit is clear: Only the immediate points before and after the Chinese destination matter and they have to be in different countries. As you can see, both of your immediate points are the same - Doha, Qatar.

If you cannot rearrange your flights to look like (a sample):

Doha - Shanghai - Hong Kong - Doha

Then you will have to obtain a Chinese tourist (L) visa in advance.
