About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Complicated Segments Question

I have already purchase a ticket from NYC to Shanghai 1/2 and then eventually from Beijing back to NYC 1/15. However I have another ticket from Shanghai to Taipei 1/5 and Taipei to Beijing 1/9. Is that ok the way the two tickets are grouped together? Essentially I’m doing NYC to Shanghai to Taipei to Beijing to NYC. It’s just that the NYC to shanghai and Beijing to NYC tickets are bought together as a single trip.

Elle, this is not complicated at all. Simply speaking, you have two itineraries that are definitely eligible for 144 hour visa free transit in both Shanghai and Beijing:

New York - Shanghai - Taipei

Taipei - Beijing - New York

Your citizenship and your itinerary are all that matter. Also, your tickets bought as two open-jaw tickets and this is perfectly allowed for 144 hour visa free transit.

By the way, it is very important that you don't have any additional landing of any kind within mainland China within each of your two itineraries.
