About:China Private Visit Visa

British teacher with Vietnamese spouse

I have been offered a job at a Chinese university and I am in the process of applying for the visa. My wife is Vietnamese.
1. Can she apply for her S visa in Hanoi?
2. Your article states that the "inviter's Chinese residence permit" is required for the S visa application. Does that mean I have to go to China before my wife can join me?

Thanks.

Michael, in my opinion, your wife can apply for her S visa in Hanoi. As you currently don't have a residence permit, if you want your wife to go together with you, you can ask the company to add your wife's name as an accompanying person onto your work permit so that your wife can use a copy of your work permit plus the marriage certificate to apply for S visa.
