Meles, if you are arriving to Shanghai from a country that is different than both New Zealand and mainland China, you will be definitely eligible for 24 hour visa free transit in Shanghai and you don't need any kind of visa.
You will print out your flight tickets and bring those printouts with you. Also, you will declare in your origin country at check-in that you will fly to Auckland via Shanghai using 24 hour visa free transit. After a short check, you will be allowed to board the plane.
Upon your arrival in Shanghai, under the assumption that you are flying on a single (through) ticket, you will just clear a pair of formalities and you will wait for your onward flight to Auckland at the designated boarding gate.
