About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

I have a Philippine passport with UAE resident visa.

I have a Philippine passport with UAE resident visa. I am planning to book a roundtrip ticket to Cebu with a 20 hours layover in Guangzhou Baiyun Airport. Is it possible to get the 24 hours free visa exemption? And do i need to book a hotel in advance?

Gc, your itinerary, if Guangzhou is your only stop within China, is definitely eligible for 24 hour visa free transit and you don't need any kind of visa. Anyway, here we have a problem because since recently, the authorities of Guangzhou airport have introduced the policy that they will not issue a temporary entry permits, in other words, they will not allow to exit the airport to passengers in case if they are flying on a single (through) ticket and have international to international connection and that is probably your case.

Anyway, you can try your luck by approaching 24 hour visa free transit counter where you will apply for a temporary entry permit and maybe the authorities will show some mercy, although you should not count on that. Be prepared to find some activity and to kill the time within the airport.
