About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Would I be eligible for the free 144?

I am flying from JFK - Shanghai - Denpasar My layover in Shanghai is for 12 hours. I will leave Denpasar - Shanghai -JFK. My layover the second time is 13 hours. Do I qualify for the free 144 hour visa. It will be 7 days between the both layovers.

If this isn't the best visa for me which one will work?

Each entry is considered separately.
Since each entry is under 24 hours you are only eligible for the 24 hour visa free transit each time.
JFK - Shanghai - Denpasar is one 24 hour transit
Denpasar - Shanghai - JFK is one 24 hour transit.
You will then need to apply for temporary entry permit to leave the airport upon each arrival in Shanghai. Normally you will be required to spend the layovers inside the airport. They will commonly make exception if there is an overnight hotel reservation confirmation provided.
