About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Study abroad in Kunming but want to travel prior to start of program

Hello - My daughter is doing a study abroad program in Kunming that will start on 2/12. I would like to travel a little bit with her before her program starts. Would this itinerary work for the 144 hour visa for the first 2 legs of the trip? If yes, would this affect her student visa that will start on 2/12?
US - Beijing - Hong Kong (or Singapore)
Hong Kong (or Singapore) - Xi'ian - Taiwan
Taiwan - Kunming (arrive 2/12 for her study abroad program)
Thank you!

That will work if your itinerary doesn't include other stops in Mainland China and you will be in transit (i.e., not going back where you came from) after visiting Xi'an. When at immigration be sure to clearly indicate to the immigration agent that your daughter is not activating her X visa.

Thanks, John Doe. Would we be able to do these 2 different 144 hour visa free routes:
Taiwan -> Beijing -> Macau (can we leave Macau the same day we arrive from Beijing and go to Xi'an)
Macau -> Xi'an -> Hong Kong
Hong Kong -> Kunming

You can if there are no additional stops. Staying in Macau for less than a day is accepted and common.
