About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Traveling to Chengdu, then Hong Kong, then Shanghai

Hi

Is my below itinerary okay to travel without a visa?

Monday fly from NYC to Chengdu
Tuesday Chengdu 5AM
Wednesday leave Chengdu 2PM to fly to Hong Kong
Hong Kong Wednesday to Friday
Friday 3PM fly to Shanghai
Friday 5PM Shanghai
Sunday 11AM fly back to NYC

Hong Kong is treated as a third country for transit without visa purposes. Hong Kong allows 90 days without a visa for US Passport. Each transit will be evaluated separately, Assuming you included all mainland china transfers:

USA > Chengdu > Hong Kong allows up to 144 hour transit
Hong Kong > Shanghai > USA allows another 144 hour transit.
