About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Traveling round trip to Shanghai, then roudtrip from shanghai to vietnam. Visas?

Hello, I plan to arrive in Shanghai and spend five days there, then take a roundtrip flight from Shanghai to Hanoi for 10 days. My flight arrives back at Shanghai from Vietnam on a Wednesday, and I am leaving the next day to return to the US from Shanghai's airport. I know I will need a visa to enter China for the five days of touring, but will I need a multiple entry visa to return to Shanghai for my flight out to the US or will a visa for the first part of the trip be enough with a 24 hour transit visa when I get back to Shanghai? Will entering China twice be an issue?

If you have USA Passport you might not need a visa at all. Separate tickets are allowed.

USA > Beijing > Vietnam is allowed 6 days in Beijing without a visa, assuming you don't have any other Chinese landings outside of Beijing.

Vietnam > Beijing > USA would be allowed the 24 hour transit without visa.

If for some reason you don't qualify for the 144 hour transit , USA Passport holders can apply for a 10 year multiple entry visa in advance of travel. It's the same price as single entry visa.
