About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

24 hr free transit denied

Hi, I just came back from the Maldives with an 18 hr layover in Shanghai; our 24 free transit visa was denied but due to language barrier i am still not sure why. We landed at 5am and our connecting flight to vancouver was at 11:55pm. We were in terminal 1 and our luggage was being sent directly to vancouver - we didn't have to collect it and check-in again. All 4 of us were travelling with canadian passports... any ideas?

Just wondering if we should have done something differently.

Ximena, did you or did you not board your connecting flight to Vancouver at 11:55pm? I honestly cannot understand when were you denied 24 hour visa free transit? Maybe you were denied a temporary entry permit to be allowed to exit the airport? Was this the case?
