Ulaanbaatar-Beijing-Hong Kong

I have a Canadian passport. I have a flight booked Nov 1 from Ulaanbaatar to Beijing. I would like to stay 3 or 4 days in Beijing then book the high speed train to Hong Kong. I suspect I would qualify for the 144 hour visa free transit for Beijing, but do I require a tourist visa to take the train to Hong Kong.

Actually, to be eligible for 144 hour visa free transit, you cannot take a high speed train from Beijing to Hong Kong, but you have to take a conventional, through train departing from Beijing West and arriving at Hong Kong Hung Hom railway station. Only this option with the train from Beijing is eligible for 144 hour visa free transit. Please, have in mind that it is necessary that you book this train before your departure from Mongolia because you will need an e-confirmation for this train (a proof that you will be in a transit) in your hand at check-in in Ulaanbaatar. You can book this ticket at this website.

If you insist on traveling by high speed train from Beijing to Hong Kong, then a visa will be a must. Also, you can bypass the trains and take a plane instead.
