About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

73 hours between scheduled arrival and departure - can i use 72 or 144 hour options?

I have an impromptu short visit in Beijing starting in 2 weeks, and there are 73 hours between my scheduled arrival and departure times - I am eager to avoid having to obtain a regular visa if possible, since I do not live near my designated consulate. Am I ok at 73 hours under the 72 hour exception? Or can I use the 144 hour exception? Thank you very much for your help.

Beijing does not offer 72 hours transit without visa anymore; only 24 and 144 hours are available. Therefore 73 hours is not a problem, as long as you are in transit to a third country and your passport qualifies. You can post your exact itinerary if you want further confirmation.

Thanks for fast response - I arrive at PEK from the US on Nov 14 at 330pm; I depart on a flight to Hong Kong at 430pm on Nov 17. I am staying in Beijing for the 3 nights in between. It sounds like the 144 hour visa free transit will work for me - I would appreciate your thoughts. Thank you again for your help.

Dave, it is possible to use 144 hour visa free transit that has replaced old 72 hour visa free transit in Beijing, but to be certain whether do you qualify or not, we really need your detailed travel itinerary.

Your itinerary is definitely eligible for 144 hour visa free transit in Beijing. Indeed a very simple itinerary.
